Keep your smile healthy for years to come

Preventive care with Dr. David goes beyond routine checkups—it’s about understanding your overall health and long-term goals. Each visit starts with a conversation, where we take the time to learn what matters most to you—clinically, financially, and personally. We’ll assess your oral health in the context of your total well-being, including screenings for conditions like hypertension, sleep apnea, and TMJ issues. You’ll get gentle cleanings, personalized guidance, and clear, judgment-free explanations so you always understand the "why" behind every recommendation. Our goal is to help you avoid problems before they start, and to create a plan that’s realistic, effective, and centered around your comfort. Every step of the way, we’re here to make sure you feel supported, informed, and truly cared for.

The benefits of preventive care

Catch small problems early

Sticking to regular checkups helps us catch issues before they turn into bigger (and more expensive) problems.

Advice that’s made for you

We’ll walk you through simple ways to care for your teeth at home based on your habits, lifestyle, and goals.

Keep your smile fresh

Routine cleanings help your teeth stay bright, smooth, and healthy all year long.

Our preventive care treatments

Exams and cleanings

Every checkup includes a detailed exam, professional cleaning (if appropriate), and plenty of time to talk through any questions you have. Dr. David looks at your whole smile—your teeth, gums, bite, and any existing dental work—to make sure everything’s working the way it should. You’ll leave with a cleaner smile, a better understanding of your oral health, and tips you can actually use between visits.

Fluoride treatments

Fluoride helps protect your teeth by strengthening the enamel and making it harder for cavities to form. It’s great for both kids and adults, especially if your teeth are prone to sensitivity or decay. The treatment is quick, painless, and customized to what your smile needs. We’ll also help you find fluoride products you can use at home to keep the benefits going.

Dental sealants

Sealants are a simple, protective coating that we apply to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. They help block out food and bacteria that can lead to cavities, especially in hard-to-reach spots. Sealants are commonly recommended for kids, but they’re also helpful for adults who want extra protection. The process is quick, easy, and noninvasive.

Periodontal care

Your gums play a big role in your overall oral health. During your regular visits, we check your gum health and look for signs of inflammation or infection. If we notice anything, we’ll walk you through the next steps and give you tools to take care of your gums at home. You’ll always know what’s going on and feel supported every step of the way.

Deep cleaning

If you have gum disease, deep cleaning helps remove bacteria from below the gumline and gives your gums a chance to heal. This treatment helps stop bleeding, reduce inflammation, and prevent more serious issues down the road. We’ll talk you through the process, make sure you’re comfortable, and give you clear instructions for aftercare.

Oral cancer screenings

At every checkup, we’ll do a thorough and painless screening for signs of oral cancer. We check your cheeks, tongue, throat, jaw, and more just to make sure everything looks healthy. It only takes a minute, and it can help catch early changes that are easier to treat.

Frequently asked
questions

How often should I come in for preventive visits?

For many people, every six months is a good rhythm, but we’ll figure out what’s best for you. If you need a little extra care, we can adjust the schedule to make sure your smile stays healthy and strong.

Do you take my insurance for preventive care?

We're in-network with Delta Dental Premier and work with many other plans on an out-of-network basis. If you’re not sure what your benefits cover, don’t worry. We’ll walk you through it, share clear estimates, and help you feel confident about your options every step of the way.

What if I haven’t been to the dentist in years?

That’s okay! Life happens, and we’re just glad you’re thinking about coming in now. You’ll be met with kindness, not judgment, and we’ll take things one step at a time to help you feel comfortable getting back on track.

Had another great experience at the dentist. Dr. David and Laura did a wonderful job on my crown. Also, shout out to Michelle and Sheila, always a pleasure.

Dr. David has been my new dentist for several months now. Today was my second visit in the last few weeks to have a third cavity filled. Both visits were handled in a professional and comforting manner. He provided plenty of information during the procedure so I understood what was going on The whole time. There was very little pain afterwards. I appreciated the fact that while plan A worked, he had a Plan B ready to go. I had been a patient of Dr. Perno for years, I am glad to see the practice is in good hands.
